As an artist, I am typically more drawn to Renaissance and Baroque types of architecture, however, great design is great design, and I fell in love with this modern contemporary structure even before it was completed. I often took quick walks outside during my breaks in live painting engagements at the Grand Bohemian Hotel Gallery and so followed the construction process. In late October of 2014 I was able to spend some more quality time and get a few sketches and detail reference photos.

As usual, I found myself looking for "not so common" angles and perspectives to accentuate. One in particular was from the sidewalk just outside the south entrance of the building. By laying on my back looking up into the intersecting planes of glass, the images of the fall sky and billowing clouds were pulled into the main surfaces and produced the feeling of being "embraced" by the inner layering of reflective planes, welcoming you into the depth of the "art" of the center itself. Enjoy!

The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is a performing arts center in Downtown Orlando, Florida, United States. It replaced the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, now renamed the Bob Carr Theater, originally built in 1926. The new performing arts center had its grand opening on November 6, 2014.

Architecture Design was by Barton Myers Associates of Los Angeles, with acoustics by Artec Consultants and internal theaters designed by Theatre Project Consultants.
