"Protecting The Bridge"

Original Dark Roast Watercolor™ painting:
Using Local St. Augustine coffee Roaster:
Jayells Coffee Company - Ancient City Dark Roast

One of the beautiful landmarks in the city od St. Augustine is the "Bridge of lions"

The bridge is a double-leaf bascule bridge that spans the Intracoastal Waterway. A part of the A1A, it connects downtown

St. Augustine to Anastasia Island; across Matanzas Bay. A pair of Medici lions made of marble guard the bridge. Construction on the bridge began in 1925 and was completed in 1927.

For this painting, I needed to get just the right angle...

My vision was to excentuate the stature of the Medici Lion scupture, giving it a sense of greater stregnth and larger than lfe presence. And then join that with an underlying tone of the lion's gaze intently scanning the distance ready to pounce and protect against any oncoming danger. Enjoy!
